The British Musical Fireworks Championship 2026 lights up Victoria Park in Southport on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September 2026. Six professional pyrotechnic teams will compete across two evenings, synchronising every burst, colour change and finale to music.
If you are planning a Southport fireworks weekend, Birkdale Links Lodge and Market Quarter Apartment currently still have availability. That gives couples, families and groups two convenient self-catering options for enjoying the event without a long journey home after the final display.

What makes Southport’s musical fireworks special?
This is more than a conventional fireworks display. Each company designs a full pyro-musical performance in which the timing, colour, pace and intensity of the fireworks are choreographed to a chosen soundtrack. The teams are competing for the championship title, so every sequence is designed to impress both the judging panel and the crowd.
The combination of music and professional pyrotechnics transforms Victoria Park into one of the most memorable Southport events of the year. Arrive when the gates open to settle in, explore the food and drink stalls and enjoy the build-up before the competition begins.

Which teams are competing in the 2026 championship?
The official 2026 programme currently lists six competitors, with three displays on each evening:
Saturday 26 September
- Skyburst
- Monumental Fireworks
- Sonic Fireworks
Sunday 27 September
- Celestial Displays
- Flashpoint Fireworks
- Fire Monkey Pyro
Competitors and running arrangements may be amended, so use the official event page for any late changes.
Tickets, arrival times and what to bring
Tickets are on sale now, and Visit Southport advises booking early because the seated section regularly sells out well before the weekend. Children under five can enter free. A carer may enter free with a full-paying customer and accepted supporting documentation, although the complimentary carer ticket applies to general admission rather than the seated area.
Victoria Park is an outdoor, mainly grassed venue in late September, so bring warm layers and weather-appropriate footwear. Ear defenders are strongly recommended for young children or anyone sensitive to sudden loud noise. Food may be brought onto the site, but barbecues and open fires are not permitted.
Although dogs are permitted on leads, the organiser strongly advises leaving them at home because professional fireworks are extremely loud. Drones and small unmanned aircraft are prohibited within the event site.
Getting to Victoria Park
Both Southport and Birkdale railway stations are approximately a 15-minute walk from Victoria Park. Merseyrail is promoting special event return fares for the championship, subject to its published terms, making the train a useful option if you want to avoid event traffic.
If you are driving, follow event signs as you approach Southport. The official event car park is at Princes Park and is currently advertised to open at 4:30pm, with a £7 charge per car. Accessible parking is available at Splash World on a first-come, first-served basis for Blue Badge holders, at the normal parking rate. Visitors with additional needs can enter Victoria Park from 5pm, before the main gates open.
For another local overview of travel, accessibility and event-night planning, read the SouthportGuide fireworks guide and check Merseyrail’s championship travel page.
Where to stay for the Southport fireworks
A self-catering stay gives you a comfortable base before the gates open and somewhere private to relax when the show ends. For the British Musical Fireworks Championship weekend, we currently have two different options available: a spacious Birkdale house for larger groups and a central Southport apartment for up to four guests.
Birkdale Links Lodge — sleeps up to 8
This three-bedroom, two-bathroom holiday home is close to Birkdale Village and convenient for Birkdale station. It includes two king-size bedrooms, a twin room, an additional lounge with a double sofa bed, a fully equipped kitchen, Wi-Fi, off-road parking and a garden. It is a strong choice for families or friends attending the Southport fireworks together.
Market Quarter Apartment — sleeps up to 4
Market Quarter Apartment is a one-bedroom, one-bathroom stay in central Southport, close to Southport Market, shops and restaurants. With a fully equipped kitchen, Wi-Fi and free off-street parking, it works well for couples, small families or friends who want the town centre within easy reach.
Book the fireworks weekend before availability goes
Search for arrival on Friday 25 September 2026 and departure on Monday 28 September 2026, or enter the exact nights you need. Event-weekend availability can change quickly and is not secured until a booking is completed.
Make a weekend of it in Southport
Because the fireworks do not begin until the evening, there is time to enjoy Southport during the day. Explore Lord Street and Southport Market, walk around Marine Lake or spend a relaxed afternoon in Birkdale Village before heading to Victoria Park. Staying for both nights also lets you see all six competing teams rather than choosing just one half of the championship.
